Former PayPal president Scott Thompson has been named as chief executive officer of waning internet empire Yahoo. He’ll take over the role, which is currently being filled by chief financial officer Tim Morse, on 9 January. Thompson will formally replace Carol Bartz, the previous CEO, who was fired by Yahoo last September.
